
The Department of Asian American Studies invites you to join us for the 17th Annual Balgopal Lecture on Human Rights and Asian Americans next Thursday, April 10th, 2025. This year's prestigous talk features Dr. Nayan Shah, Professor of American Studies & Ethnicity and History at the University of Southern California. He has authored two award-winning books: Contagious Divides: Epidemics and Race in San Francisco's Chinatown and Stranger Intimacy: Contesting Race, Sexuality, and the Law in the North American West. His latest publication Refusal to Eat: A Century of Prison Hunger Strikes is available now.
Shah's talk is entitled Mutual Aid and Resisting Carceral Power: Asian American Strategies and explores Asian Americans' creative strategies of mutual aid and resistance and examines how the rightless fight unjust conditions and create communities of survival.
