Students who major or minor in Asian American Studies are invited to apply for the 2025 Betty Lee Sung Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship provides funding for a student to attend a national meeting focused on Asian American issues. Typically, recipients of the award use this funding to attend the Association of Asian American Studies (AAAS) Conference. This year, the conference is held in Boston, MA from April 17th-19th.

This scholarship honors Dr. Betty Lee Sung, a pioneer in the field of Asian American Studies. Dr. Sung earned her bachelor's degree in sociology and economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1948. She went on to found City College's first full-time Asian American Studies program, publish nine books, and advocate for social justice in numerous organizations. In 2017, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Asian American Studies.
