There is a look to look forward to at AAS, including several new and exciting course options for spring 2025. AAS 287: Food & Asian Americans is being offered for the first time since 2019. Enrolled students will investigate the politics and poetics of Asian American foodways by examining social habits, restaurants, ethnic cookbooks, fiction, memoir, magazines, and TV. The course is taught by our newest faculty member, Dr. Simi Kang. Kang recently moved to Illinois after teaching in British Columbia.
If you've still got the appetite for more AAS after checking out Kang's course, try AAS 299: Race, Science, & Technology, offered next semester by Dr. Keva Bui. Bui's course will challenge students to explore new ways to envision the relationship between science, technology, and the social world. This is a critically important class for any student interested in social justice.
The list of AAS courses offered next semester goes in on. There's enough variety for all students to find a topic they resonate with. Expand your horizons (and fulfill your gen. ed. requirements) with AAS!
