The Department of Asian American Studies is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for a new departmental award. The Betty Lee Sung Undergraduate Award honors outstanding undergraduate majors or minors in Asian American Studies who have demonstrated excellent scholarship in Asian American Studies, and who have shown leadership in promoting the understanding of Asian American issues on campus or in the community.

This award has been made possible by a generous grant from Dr. Betty Lee Sung, a University of Illinois alumna and influential scholar in Asian American Studies. She is Professor Emeritus of the City University of New York. She has authored numerous books on Chinese Americans and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Asian American Studies in 2017.

Nominations for the award may be made by any member of the campus community. Students may also nominate themselves. The deadline for nominations is March 30, 2020.
